Moray Eel Fish Sea Ocean Marine Reef Aquat

The only marine sea life animals are the moray eel that are found only in salt waters. A number of them are also grow in brackish waters also. Moray eel is owned by the eel family and the biggest among them is the green moray eel.

Anatomy

The eels have a protracted dorsal fin. This shapes like a tail by joining with caudal and anal fins. The eels do not have pectoral and pelvic fins. They usually have small eyes that makes the sight of the eels difficult. So they use their sense of smell to identify their prey. They also have a protruding snout with wide jaws. They have narrow heads which helps the eels in swallowing the victim. The moray eels have a different set of jaw within the mouth that helps in capturing and restraining its prey. These pharyngeal jaws also have teeth that assist with wounding the prey.

They also have a protective layer of mucus within its body surface which is secreted by them. This coating protects the eels from any bacterial attacks inside the water. The skin won’t have scales. This provides a smooth appearance. The body of the eel ends with a short tail fin.

Team Hunting

They have a special character among the sea life creatures which is team searching. The moray eels initially choose the team by analysing the capacity of the team partners in entering into crevices which are narrow. The eels then make a search for a team by surrounding the prey in all directions and finally killing it. Such co-ordinated activities are not seen in any other type of fish.

They could be are found in tropical and temperate climates. They’re found in oceans and sees of the tropical regions. Usually the moray eels live deep inside the water. They are highly conservative in nature. They conceal themselves inside crevices and behind the stones. The majority of the moray eels live in salt water only. They could travel into a sub – tropical areas at times. Just a little population of these eels are seen in different parts of the world too.

Moray Eel and Humans

These sea creatures have the ability to wound humans. They have sharp teeth that could pierce human body. But they don’t feed on humans. They feed only on other small fishes. Most of the time, these eels are believed to be extremely vigorous. In nature they’re shy and conservative. They do not harm humans wilfully. Any assault on humans is purely for defence. If there is any misconception of prey, the eels can hurt humans.

Otherwise, the moray eels always try to flee instead of fighting with humans. There are divers who feed these creatures with food and there are opportunities of the divers being harmed by the eels. But usually these eels hide from people behind rocks and cracks.

They will be found abundant in rocky shores, and close to the reefs and mangroves.
